"The 'D'istressing 'D'readful 'D'ivision"

Friday, October 1, 2010

This post is is primarily inspired by the "official class blog"(words of the blog owner......not mine!) of cse section-d!

After mustering the courage to memorize the incredibly tongue-twisted url(try to say "dspotblogdot" over and over again and you'll see what i mean) of the class blog and actually typing it in the address bar, the first four words of the blog made me think......'oops.....wrong place...seems like some sort of an alien website.....no human - good or evil - could possibly try to welcome a fellow human with such a prank!'

After confirming that this was in fact the correct place, i started going through the posts.... clicked on a link and it turned black, which is the same as the color of the background. So the next time you write a comment on a post, or want to download some slides from the blog, make sure you do it correctly the first time, because you might find it hard to locate the link afterwards!

In the comments section of the very first post, i found a very pleasing and relieving comment. Someone, who could see the pains our fellow classmates had to take, has started a new class blog which is certainly in a much more readable format. Though the owner of this new blog is hellbent on not disclosing his/her identity, I thank him for taking this initiative!

The Last Laugh.....

(Meka promoting vandalism)

Look at these faces . At first sight, it might look like a bunch of classmates who are having a good time. However, a careful observation of the expressions on their faces reveals everything - the pain, torture and unimaginable suffering they are going through.
Every six months, about five thousand people (MIT engineering students to be more precise) undergo a similar kind of trauma - the fear of end semester examinations!! The fear is so great that it turns the biggest atheists into bhakts of God and the most cheerful into depressed souls.
People have often suggested several ways to overcome the suffering such as by lighting the exam room on fire, or flooding it, but unfortunately, the results are yet to be seen.

Avinash Singh a.k.a Addu.
The guy who has the ability to run a swearing marathon and win it!!! Once he gets going, the person who faces his rants will think of committing suicide, while others who are listening, will laugh and laugh till their stomachs hurt.

He's not studying....just pretending to, so that when this pic is put up on the blog, he will be pinned up as "The studious one"....well thats not gonna happen!

Java ("DODO") Wars

Ankur "Dodo" Bhatia getting worked up for no reason and ranting incessantly is common phenomenon. Sometimes in the form of Loud group singing or sometimes in the form of loud speeches, he (accompanied by dhekne(gogo), pappu(pappu), meka, vishal (pandey/despaande), sumit, avinash(addu), utkarsh and ankur srivastava) always makes sure the class is alive and kicking.

Combine his rants with a java lecture where everyone's adrenaline levels are at an all time high, and you've got yourself a treat!!!
Here are a couple of videos to prove my point....

Indo-Pak Relations ... my perspective

Saturday, April 3, 2010

It is the very nature of politics to corrupt a man, to make him impervious to human emotions and feelings. A politician is so drunk with power (not necessarily governmental), that all he seeks is more and more fame. The means by which he gains it are completely immaterial. He keeps getting sucked into a vortex of corruption that is so powerful, that he cannot even hear the pledges, the cries of the commoners – those very commoners who in the first place elected him to be their leader...elected him to serve them.

This article is about the indo-pak relations, and whether there is a scope for improvement in the future.

A common man is one who leads a simple and a harmonious life. He earns just about enough to feed, clothe and house his family. On special occasions, such as his son’s birthday, he is able to afford a present from the little money he could save. This man does not care much for the happenings in the world. Issues such as conflicts between his nation and another definitely play a role in his life on an emotional level, but they mean nothing more.

When man grows in fame, even by a little, he becomes an idol, even if to a very small group of people. The man starts altering his behaviour according to the expectations of these people. The fame grows and grows and so does the number of people who have started idolising him. The happiness he feels due to his success is unparalleled by any other event in his life.

As the man becomes more and more famous, the expectations of his followers grow. Up until a certain point, he is able to fulfil these expectations. However, beyond this point, psychological pressure builds up, which only grows and starts becoming insurmountable. The insurmountable pressure coupled with the fear of a failure forces him to skip the ethical steps he’d been following all his life, and turn to corruption.

The hatred between the people of India and Pakistan, as we all know, has been prevalent long before independence. All this began when the British introduced the divide and rule policy in 1905, when Muslims were given a majority in the state. The British repeatedly introduced anti-Hindu and anti-Muslim sentiments to create hatred between the two most dominant religions in the country. And by the time they were about to leave India, enough hatred had already been spread. In 1944, the talks between Gandhi and Jinnah failed. This was seen by Muslims as an acknowledgement that Jinnah represents all Indian Muslims. This, along with the Direct Action Day of 1945, was enough proof to show that a partition of the nation was inevitable.

Ever since then, the politicians of both the nations have very tactfully spread the message of hate for the neighbouring state through “failed” negotiations, militancy and blame-games . And this message has been spread more successfully in Pakistan. This is because the religious cults and the political fanatics have seen to it that the masses remain uneducated, so that they could cripple their minds with a feeling of hatred and disbelief.

To a Muslim, a Hindu was a best friend. To a Hindu, a Muslim was the love of his life. However, the greed of a few men has infused the minds of millions with hatred and nonsensical madness. The leaders of both the nations continue to fuel the hatred among the masses and it is a shame to see that most of us idolise them.

The wounds inflicted to our psyche by those corrupt few are probably irreparable, and in very realistic terms, I do not see a cure or a healer in sight.

Summer bonanza!!!!!

Thursday, April 1, 2010

The following rumor, which has been keeping us all inquisitive about the extension of the summer break has been confirmed...

Our college reopens for the fifth semester on 2nd august and NOT 19th july!!! Thats
two more weeks of summer....
two more weeks of fun....
two more weeks of adventure....
two more weeks of sun!!
(or in some cases, two more weeks of mind - numbing boredom!!)

I believe this is all good karma....God is repaying us for withstanding RSB's madness and flta ma'am's insanities!!

RDBMS mass bunk??

Remember how ecstatic we all were when it was announced that rdbms class was cancelled today?? Well, apparently it was not and we "unknowingly" mass-bunked the lecture!!! Nice way to say "April fool" to sucharita shetty, aint it???

Now i just hope that maam dosent say "same to you" by chopping off two days of attendance for each one of us!!! (Unconfirmed rumors have it that we've all lost a day's worth of attendance)

One month up!!!!

Sunday, March 21, 2010

One the 21st of february, we had started our class blog. Since then, we've been posting all kinds of goofy stuff about our classmates and more importantly, our teachers! And the response we've got from our readers has definitely been nothing short of overwhelming.

With over 2000 page hits, 855 blog visits and over 200 unique visitors (statistics: Google analytics), we're happy to say that our class blog has been a big success so far.

Today, on the one-month anniversary of our class blog, we post our first serious article on drunk-driving. We hope you'll like it.

'Spare a thought before you drink and drive!!'

Saburido before and after her surgeries

Early life

The only child of Rosalia and Amadeo Saburido, she lived in Caracas, Venezuela for all of her childhood. Living with her father after her parents divorced, she began studying engineering in the hope of taking over the family air conditioning business. In 1999, Saburido was struggling in college and decided to take a break. She took a trip to Texas to study the English language.

The accident

On September 19, 1999, Saburido attended a birthday party near Austin, Texas. She and her friends decided to head home after a few hours. Saburido and her friends, Laura Guerrero, Johan Daal and Johanna Gil, accepted a ride home from a classmate, Natalia Chpytchak Bennett. Reginald Stephey, a 17-year-old high school student, was on his way home after drinking beer with his friends at a party. On the outskirts of Austin, Stephey's 1996 GMC Yukon veered into Bennett's 1990 Oldsmobile Ninety-Eight Regency. Bennett's car was carrying Saburido and the others.

Guerrero and Bennett were killed instantly. Gil and Daal were injured but not seriously. Saburido's feet were trapped under the seat and she could not get out. The car caught fire. Two paramedics, John McIntosh and Bryan Fitzpatrick, happened to be driving past when Stephey flagged them down. The flames were leaping several feet up into the air as they arrived. McIntosh put out the fire with his extinguisher and the two men set about removing everyone from the vehicle.

Saburido was trapped, and the fire returned. McIntosh and Fitzpatrick were forced back, and Saburido was left to burn for around 45 seconds as the flames engulfed the vehicle. A fire truck arrived and put out the fire, Saburido was cut from the car and airlifted to the burns unit in Galveston.

Saburido suffered second and third degree burns to over 60 percent of her body. She survived, reportedly despite the expectations of her doctors. All of her fingers had to be amputated, but there was enough bone left on her thumb to construct an opposable thumb. She lost her hair, ears, nose, lips, left eyelid and much of her vision. She has undergone more than 50 operations since the crash, including cornea transplants, which have restored her left eye, and she has many more to go.

Aftermath:-

In June 2001, Reginald Stephey was convicted on two counts of intoxicated manslaughter. He was sentenced to two concurrent seven-year prison sentences inside Huntsville Unit and fined $20,000.

Saburido allowed graphic post-accident photographs of herself to be used in the media (posters, TV-commercials, and internet chain mail) to illustrate a possible outcome of drunk driving. She is most well known for a commercial in which she holds a pre-accident photo of herself in front of the camera, which she lowers to reveal her disfigured face and says, "This is me, after being hit by a drunk driver." When asked why she appeared in the campaign, Saburido stated "I feel very good to do it because I know people can understand a little more what happened to me -- why my life changed completely. So I think for me, for everybody, it's a good opportunity."

In order to ensure the material involving Saburido that was used in an ad campaign by the Texas Department of Transportation in schools, the videos and photos taken of her involved the use of soft lighting to improve her appearance and consultation with child psychologists to ensure the material, although graphic, would not frighten children.

Regarding her life after the accident, Saburido stated that she has never given up: "If a person stumbles, he must pick himself up and keep going. I believe this is very important; if not, life would not have much sense."

Saburido appeared on the Oprah Winfrey Show on November 17, 2003. She was also interviewed on the Australian 60 Minutes on March 14, 2004 and was featured in a Discovery Health documentary on face transplants. She continues to educate people on drunk driving. Oprah Winfrey has called Saburido the one person she had met who defined "inner beauty" and that she is "a woman who defines survival."

Saburido's story was featured in the motivational presentation Inside Out by Motivational Productions.

Saburido is currently living in her hometown of Caracus, Venezuela. Her mother Rosalia died of bone cancer three years ago.

Forgiveness of Stephey

Saburido and Stephey met for the first time after his trial and conviction in 2001. Saburido has stated that Stephey "destroyed my life. Completely" but forgave him. Regarding the meeting, Stephey later stated that "What sticks out in my mind is, 'Reggie, I don't hate you.' It's really touching someone can look you in the eyes and have that much compassion after all that I have caused."

Stephey's served his full sentence, having an appeal denied in 2005. He was released from the Huntsville Unit in Texas on June 24, 2008 Saburido stated: "I don't hate him, I don't feel bad because he's out, he can reconstruct his life again."

In a video posted on Metacafe.com, Stephey describes his life since he was incarcerated while Saburido describes her life after the accident.

Face transplant

Saburido is among the 20 disfigured people who have approached surgeons at a London hospital to carry out Britain's first face transplant operation. She is also looking into other possibilities for a face transplant in other nations and hospitals.

"Hope" - A short speech by Saburido :

FLTA ma'am going the RDBMS way???

Saturday, March 20, 2010

I had mentioned in one of my previous posts that due to the exponential increase in hooliganism during the lectures, our FLTA ma'am is showing signs of cracking up. Now, about a couple of days back, she had threatened the class with the following statement:

"I will start cutting two days attendance for you people, if you continue to talk!"

This had immediately caused everyone to quiet down (only for like 2 minutes though)!

Given that half of us are on the threshold of getting an ordi, the enforcement of this proposal of hers can have potentially devastating effects!!!!!

Wo...men in black!!!

Friday, March 19, 2010

Now how often do we see this.....Three of our very own classmates decide to wear black tees and extort Kini!!!! While two of them(Prapti and Ishaani) ask Kini to surrender all her valuables, the third(Avani) stands and laughs (muhahahahha)!!!!

(A helpless Kini!!)

A rare absentee and a latecomer....

18th March, 2010 was a rare day, when the students of our class were ecstatic! This was because of the following two reasons:

1. Messy Boy was absent!!
2. RDBMS ma'am entered the class 15 minutes late! (She mistakenly went to NOOL-7 instead of coming to L-305!!)...The happiness on our classmates below says it all....

Yasmeen and Sagar spinning wild tales while Rovin wonders if Messy is dead!!

Avani, and two 'idiots' wondering if RDBMS ma'am got tired of teaching and impulsively decided to leave the college!

Time-pass guide to RDBMS lecture

Some useful tips to kill time in RDBMS lecture (when you cannot talk because you know that another two absents will mean an ordi!!!!)

Sleep!!
Awesome way to countdown....At the start of the lecture, make 12 vertical lines at the back of your notebook, each representing 5 minutes. Cross each one after five minutes.

Play the age-old “ zero – kaata” with your neighbour.

Meditate.....do this by thinking about your happy place. For example, my happy places are:
a) Watching live video of RSB being chopped and fed to vultures!
b) Watch a doctor rip messy’s larynx and vocal cord off!
Similarly, you can choose a happy place for yourself....and time will fly!!!!

Ask Manish to bring “khakra” - a rajasthani speciality .Its very tasty....enjoy it during the lecture.

Curses!

The following phrases/words are being uttered with an increased frequency, as the days of this semester are coming close to a haul:

  • · “abe fatt rahi hai yaar”
  • · “gaand maraa!”
  • · “Java padhna start kiya?”
  • · “Is baar minimum do subject mein back pakki!”
  • · RSB/FLTA lecture: “Abe pappu kitna time hai lecture khatam hone mein?”

Pappu answers: “Kitni baar poochega?? pachpan(55) minute bache hain!”

  • · RDBMS lecture: “Ab aur chup nahi baith sakta! Attendance kaat rahi to kaat le!”

The Messy Boy Connection:
Until now, just before every sessionals, many of us went to Messy's room for slides and used to constantly torture him.
Now as you all know, we 'idiots' have super-soft hearts....We felt bad for our dear friend messy and have put the slides on the blog so that:

a) Messy doesn't get constantly interrupted by his classmates during the dead hours.......when we all start studying and messy is on his tenth revision
b) Easy accessibility for everyone.

Java lectures now once in a blue moon!

Wednesday, March 3, 2010

When was the last time we had a java lecture? think think!!

Cant remember?? Not your fault.

Given the fact that we've not had a java lecture in about a week, I've even forgotten what our java teacher looks like!!

(Where is she?)

Now im not complaining about the shortage of lectures, but with all the weird strictness RSB has been imposing on us lately, the attendance-cutting policy of sucharita shetty and the cursed MP lectures, we dont really get to howl and shout in the classroom, the way we used to do a while back! So Anitha Kini's Java lectures are perhaps our only outlet for that hooliganism we're all famous for, and i quite frankly think we need a few of em!

Amendments!

To make the blog upload faster, we've made a few changes on the blog:

  1. The number of posts on the main page have been restricted to 8,. In case you wanna access the older posts, either visit the Archives (Top right hand), or browse the posts selectively by category in 'Browse em' section, below the slideshow 'vellapanti'.
  2. We're removing the forum we recently added as no one is really using it. It unnecessarily slows down the blog.
Also, you can share our class blog on facebook. Simply click on the 'sharef' facebook button in the right sidebar. It'll redirect you to your facebook account. Now all you have to do is hit the 'post link' button.

We gonna reproduce??

Tuesday, March 2, 2010

Now I know we've had a bit too many posts on RSB, but everytime I plan on writing about someone else, the bizarre creature does something, that is really hard to ignore!

For instance, today RSB told us all to reproduce stuff tomorrow! As I was half asleep, i could only catch phrases of what he was uttering....everyone should be able to reproduce....if you cannot reproduce, then you should stay outside...

Why is reproduction all of a sudden so important for him is absurd. Hormonal imbalance perhaps???

Hair Scare!!

Remember those long, ultra curly horrifying hair on the head of this girl  that scare the hell out of everyone? Two of us 'idiots' had the unfortunate chance of sitting right behind em today! From 2 o’ clock, right up till 5, we panicked like never before !  We were so scared we were praying to God, that the classes be over soon, so we could run away.

Scary hair....arent they???

We have often suggested to the owner of the hair that she does something about em. But noooo............she wont listen until someone gets a panic attack!!
Brace yourself section e, for those hair might get you!

As you can see in the image above, one of the 'idiots' got so scared, he had a nervous breakdown and started laughing!!
